Final film trailer

Evaluation
The planning and research section of this project went the best and is the most high quality part of this task. I think this was because I have lots of previous experience writing and organising pieces of research. The depth of our planning made filming alot easier because we had a long list of shots. Our research was very relevant to our project and informed it greatly.
The pitch my group did to present all our research and planning is linked on my research page and got a pass with “distinction level” work quality. It has all of our planning, research and brainstorming. Throughout the practical parts of this project we followed this pre – production as closely as possible.
Production was the hardest part and provided the most obstacles for us as a group. Our first filming session consisted of only hand held filming. Later when we reviewed the footage taken on that day we realised that we didn’t like the shaky effect that came with handheld filming and so decided to use a tripod in our next filming session. In our second session we took a tripod out only for it to not be compatible with our camera and so any of the footage we took, we felt, was unusable. In a third session we filmed using a compatible tripod and got all the shots we needed. Overall I am happy with the footage we got over our 2 – 3 sessions. From this production experience I have learnt that I should use steady camera with tripod as my default filming style as it makes the film look more professional and use handheld to create an effect for certain situations. When filming we had to re – shoot a lot of clips because of shadows, overpowering light and bad angles.
Whilst editing I ran into many technical problems due to the final cut pro programme not working well with my video clips. The editing process was the biggest learning curve as I have never edited a series of clips and audio before. Editing took around 5 – 7 sessions and was done individually, resulting in 3 trailers all made with the same raw footage. I learn’t how to use effects and transitions to make my trailer flow better. I also learnt how make multiple layered clips and audio. I think the trailer needs to have faster paced editing as the trailer progresses so it has a better and more classic structure because as it is right now the final clips are quite long.
I am very happy with my final film trailer, although I do see a lot of room for improvement. I think the editing could be a bit more fast paced and the sound design could have been more complex and effective, both of these points are things I would like to carry over too my next project to increase the quality. Despite the possible improvements I think that the shots included are effective in conveying the characters and genre we were aiming for.
